Ernie Pouttu’s documentary work has spanned a wide array of topics — from music, to sports, to the environment. His non-fiction work has been featured on CNN International, CBS, NBC, PBS, and FOX.

In 2016, while attending Emerson College’s MFA Film program, his work was noticed by actor Mark Ruffalo. Mark was the face of the organization Water Defense, a non-profit that would investigate water contamination events. Over the next five years, Mark would send Ernie and water investigator Scott Smith to investigate water contamination disasters around the globe.

Ernie has continued that environmental work, focusing on how water and sea-level rise issues will continue to impact society with his feature-length documentary, Three Feet Over Boston (scheduled release 2027). He has also continued his work in music — working with bands and musical artists, record labels, and companies like Cloud 9 Adventures, to document live performances and direct short and long-form documentary films.
