Ernie Pouttu is a Boston-based filmmaker who is constantly creating. Originally trained as a cinematographer, he has continued to focus on the image through all types and genres of film — narrative, documentary, experimental, commercial & music video. His cinematography in narrative film led him to a European Cinematography Award nomination for his work on the film Sandcastles (2020). His documentary direction and cinematography garnered the interest of actor Mark Ruffalo and the Water Defense organization, which led him to traveling the world to investigate water contamination. His direction and cinematography in the music industry has been showcased by some of the biggest music publications in the world. And his experimental work, specifically in 16mm film, has been curated and displayed by museums and galleries across the United States.

He is currently working on his feature-length documentaries Three Feet Over Boston and Hockey Player; and the narrative film called Ordinary Fish, both set to be released in 2027.

Ernie Pouttu’s passion for film and artistic creation led him to teach the craft at two of the top film schools in the United States, Emerson College and Boston University. He has taught at both schools since 2020.
